Structure Fire - Emory LN

On February 10, 2017 at 21:02 Hrs, Units were dispatched for a residential structure fire on Emory Ln.   BC1 arrived at the residence and discovered smoke showing from 3 sides, with fire showing on side Charlie.  BC1 established command and requested E11 layout a supply line from Caledon Rd. for water supply and come in behind Stafford K7.   E11 arrived on scene and their crew made entry to the residence to offensively conduct fire suppression efforts.  Interior crews made a good knock down on the fire, however small fires persisted in void areas where numerous additions had been made to the original residence.   Crews were rotated out several times while performing overhaul and fire suppression.   The homeowner had advised that the power had been shut off to the residence by the power company sometime prior to the fire and that he routinely utilized generators to have lights, etc.   He also advised that a generator had been running for approximately 2 hours before the fire was discovered.  After investigation it appeared that the generator being utilized malfunctioned, causing the line from the gas tank to burn through and leak out burning gasoline, which ran over the patio and onto/into the crawlspace/wall of the house starting the fire.

The Red Cross was notified to assist the homeowner and Va. Dominion Power was notified to verify that the power was indeed shutoff to the residence.

The residence was posted as unsafe with signs at the front door and the rear of the house. Units cleared the scene at 00:13 Hrs.
